A NIGHT SHOOT for COUPLES

China Moon and Jack working together. For lovers; for friends, a night shoot

China Moon and Jack working together. For lovers; for friends, a night shoot is fun and confidence building.

The last Night Shoot we did was also our first.  Naturally we all brought our toys and did the best we could in low light.  This time we will Create Scenarios that a couple will have to work out during a home invasion or even feeding the animals at night.

So be sure to make it to La Garita Pistol Club for a chance to get some experience.  Bring your pistol, a light and a hundred rounds of ammo.  Best price on ammo is still at El Trabuco in the Multi Plaza Mall or in the Zapote Mall.

Sunday March 30Th at 5 p.m.

Be there!

A great defensive piece if you have a farm with a varmint problem; pretty, too.

Night Shoot!!!

La Garita Pistol Club’s 1st Night Shoot

I want to thank my South African friend Jim Morris, motorcycle rider (“African Hardcore

Adventures”) and fellow shooting instructor for showing me things he’d learned in Rhodesia back in the bad old days,  (just before the worse old days as Zimbabwe).  Jim was a police officer there and developed a system with two people in low light situations.

I’d also like to thank my friend “Manny” Kapelsohn for his contribution towards my enlightenment in the use of tactical illumination.  What follows is a small step, a beginning of sorts, towards better knowledge in Defensive Night Fighting.

In Dim light, the laser was very effective.

Shooting's about camaraderie and making new friends. Turn off your TV and get out of the house!Shooters became engrossed in conversation as I watched the light fade to dark and I had to get them moving before we couldn’t see at all.  I think the dark brings out the best in us.  Definitely want to do more of this…

Equipment is important. If you can't get your gun out because your tactical light hangs up on your drawers, best re-think the light and holster. Wonder if that's how the Soprano's got their name?
I was amazed at the lights and systems that showed up. No one wanted to leave their lights on for long. Some were truly blinding.

Tripple Headder: Two New Grads and a Night Shoot

Two New Graduates last week!

...girls just want to have fun.

…girls just want to have fun.

Rich and Arlen called two weeks ago and asked when they could take my Defensive Pistol Course.  We made a date the same week and boy, did we have fun.

I really like working with couples.  It was clear these two really liked and cared for each other.  There was a sense of excitement when they arrived.  They’d never held a gun in their hands at all.  GOOD!  No bad habits to break.

During the class, I discovered they’d had guns pulled on them twice in the last month.  One from behind a tree while Arlen was walking and another from a passenger on a motorcycle while driving.  I have to wonder why some people believe taking guns away from my students will make the country a safer place; but that’s a discussion for another day.

They struggled with form and worried over recoil until they finally got a grip.  Once they learned how to hang on and got the voo-doo between the sights and trigger sorted out, things settled down and they started getting hits.

Rich studiously learning; Arlen with that half smile of hers.

Soon they were using cover and thinking tactically.  The whole point of my course is for civilians to live through a life threatening attack; the only reason to even have a gun.  So I make them move.  A gunfight is dynamic and unless your defense is dynamic too, the prognosis for long life is dim.

We here at La Garita Pistol Club stay as close to the bone as we can.  We don’t teach target practice, worry much about a “fair fight” and don’t feel the least bit paranoid for wanting an equalizer during a home invasion.  There’s a lot to this Defensive Pistol business but the average person can learn to save their own lives in my two day course.

Doing the Pachanga while moving towards cover. Yes, her thumb is in the wrong place. She corrected that. It's how we learn. You next?

Without a doubt, they did the "Rock Out."

Look...still smilin', just another day of shooting at the range
