Tripple Headder: Two New Grads and a Night Shoot

Two New Graduates last week!

...girls just want to have fun.

…girls just want to have fun.

Rich and Arlen called two weeks ago and asked when they could take my Defensive Pistol Course.  We made a date the same week and boy, did we have fun.

I really like working with couples.  It was clear these two really liked and cared for each other.  There was a sense of excitement when they arrived.  They’d never held a gun in their hands at all.  GOOD!  No bad habits to break.

During the class, I discovered they’d had guns pulled on them twice in the last month.  One from behind a tree while Arlen was walking and another from a passenger on a motorcycle while driving.  I have to wonder why some people believe taking guns away from my students will make the country a safer place; but that’s a discussion for another day.

They struggled with form and worried over recoil until they finally got a grip.  Once they learned how to hang on and got the voo-doo between the sights and trigger sorted out, things settled down and they started getting hits.

Soon they were using cover and thinking tactically.  The whole point of my course is for civilians to live through a life threatening attack; the only reason to even have a gun.  So I make them move.  A gunfight is dynamic and unless your defense is dynamic too, the prognosis for long life is dim.

We here at La Garita Pistol Club stay as close to the bone as we can.  We don’t teach target practice, worry much about a “fair fight” and don’t feel the least bit paranoid for wanting an equalizer during a home invasion.  There’s a lot to this Defensive Pistol business but the average person can learn to save their own lives in my two day course.

Doing the Pachanga while moving towards cover. Yes, her thumb is in the wrong place. She corrected that. It's how we learn. You next?

Without a doubt, they did the "Rock Out."

Without a doubt, they did the “Rock Out.”

Look...still smilin', just another day of shooting at the range

A study in concentration, just another day of shooting at the range

They entered their kitchen with care...
They entered their kitchen a squirmin’ …

...and cleaned their house of vermin.

…and cleaned their house of vermin.  So ends a happy tail.
