Monthly Archives: September 2013

This is how it all began over two years ago.  I’d forgotten how emotional my wife is.  As you can see, she loves shooting.  Perhaps if you bring your wife, she’ll be happy too!  DON’T DO THIS AT HOME, staged by professional actors and experts in the field of Defensive Pistol-craft.
We’re in a state of flux here but as you can see, we’re hanging on.  We will stage our next La Garita Pistol Club Meeting this Sunday the 29th
Meanwhile our new site is going up and can be viewed at  Please visit us and make suggestions if you like.  We hope to have more options and reach more people.  You can still visit us here, we hope you do, and keep us informed about what you’d like from your Pistol Club in Costa Rica.
Also, we have a new email address:
You can, however, reach me at my old address:
More as it transpires…
See you Sunday!

A Distinguished Older Couple Came to La Garita Pistol Club last week…

Tom brought his own .45....

Tom brought his own .45….

There’s a funny thing about doing something a long time; how teaching  develops into a personal read for each student.  Years ago, as a certified NRA instructor, I used to teach basic Home  Defense.  There were often ten students in a class.  I made them safe and they shot well enough for the times.  But now my teaching is more organic and personal with one or two students at a time.

Brought her own .45 too.

Brought her own .45 too.

Take Tom and Carol for example; they had no pride to overcome, they just wanted to be able to defend themselves for these times. I’ve  been working with couples a lot since I started teaching again.  I show them  how to work together and make a dark and dreary subject fun. Sorry there aren’t more pictures.  We had a great 2 days; they took me to “Jalapenos”, a great Mexican restaurant in Alajuela and I taught them to Shoot.  We’re friends now, how cool is that?  Paul

“Self Defense is a Human Right”

The other day my daughter was helping me clean up my computer.  We decided to remove some pictures off my Picasa site.  Next thing I know, pictures were missing on my blog.  All this talk about privacy is somehow tied to how people feel about personal defense.  I’m happy to live in Costa Rica where my rights are respected.  I believe however, that I’ll be looking for a cloudless sky in the future and choose more wisely the company I build my next blog with.  Will keep you posted.  Paul
